DSEC Presents Census Data Collection Arrangements to Tertiary Institutions and Associations

To ensure a smooth operation of the first phase of data collection for the 2021 Population Census, officials of the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) visited local tertiary institutions and associations, namely City University of Macau, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Association of Chinese Capital Employment Agencies (Macao), the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao and Macau Hotel Association, between 31 March and 15 April to present the Census data collection arrangements for collective living quarters and appealed for their support to the Census work. Opinions and comments were gathered from the representatives of the institutions and associations to streamline the Census data collection work.

The first phase of data collection for the decennial Population Census of Macao, running from April to May this year, covers the marine population and individuals living in collective living quarters (e.g. dormitories and staff quarters). As stipulated in the Administrative Regulation no. 6/2021, responsible persons of collective living quarters are obliged to co-operate and provide information on accommodation and demographic characteristics of the individuals living in the units. All information collected will be kept in strict confidence and used solely for statistical purposes. Census results will be published in aggregate form and no identifiable information on individual persons or households will be disclosed from the results.

Census results, which reflect changes in the structure and socio-economic characteristics of the population, are crucial to the development of Macao and serve as an important reference source for the government, enterprises and academic institutions. DSEC expresses gratitude to all sectors of the community for their continued support to statistical work and calls on the public and the community to fulfil their civic duty and co-operate in the Census operation.
